Knights Templar Donate $10K For Clinic at St. George’s, Baghdad

March 11, 2019

(SANTA CRUZ, Calif.)—The Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem has donated $10,000 to the American Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East.

The donation from SMOTJ, also known as the Knights Templar, was earmarked to support the operations of the Medical and Dental Clinic at St. George’s Church, Baghdad.

Captain Chevalier Clayton Michael Kemmerer, GCTJ, GMTJ, Grand Prior of SMOTJ in the United States, said, “We recognize and applaud the continuing exceptional efforts of FRRME and are very pleased that we are able to renew and restore our support.” Grand Prior Kemmerer added that the Templars’ Grand Council had voted to make the gift to FRRME America via the General Raymond Davis Templar Foundation, the charitable arm of SMOTJ.

FRRME America Chairman Colonel John Busterud expressed his appreciation for the donation. “The Knights Templar are long-time supporters of FRRME America and our work in the Middle East, and we are pleased to welcome their return after a brief hiatus. This donation will be applied in direct support of one the order’s primary tenets of supporting the poor and sick.”

The Medical and Dental Clinic at St. George’s Church is a fully-staffed clinic providing free health care to people of all faiths. Open four days a week, the clinic treats between 90 and 100 patients daily and is recognized as a leading health care provider in Baghdad. The clinic is wholly funded by FRRME America and FRRME, the UK-registered charity.

While affiliated with the International Order (OSMTH), the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem is an autonomous and independent organization that seeks to emulate the chivalric and charity traditions of the original Templars; its members apply themselves energetically and selflessly to Christian charitable endeavors.

FRRME America is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes reconciliation, provides relief efforts, advances human rights, and seeks an end to sectarian violence in the Middle East.
